How to Make Protein Waffles with Herbalife Formula 1 and Protein Drink Mix (UK Recipe)

How to Make Protein Waffles with Herbalife Formula 1 and Protein Drink Mix (UK Recipe)

To make Herbalife protein waffles, whisk one serving of Formula 1 (26 g) and one serving of Protein Drink Mix (28 g) with 30 g oat flour, 1 tsp baking powder, an egg, an egg white and about 100 ml milk. Rest the batter for 10 minutes, then cook in a well-oiled waffle maker for 4 to 5 minutes until golden. One batch makes two waffles with roughly 40 g protein, and you need no special baking mix.

What do you need for a Herbalife protein waffles recipe?

Most Herbalife waffle recipes online rely on a dedicated baking mix. You do not need it. Two products most UK customers already have will do the job: Formula 1 Nutritional Shake Mix and Protein Drink Mix. Formula 1 brings flavour, fibre and vitamins. Protein Drink Mix (PDM) brings a big protein boost with very little sugar.

Oat flour gives the batter structure, baking powder adds lift, and egg binds everything and crisps the outside. If you have tried our Herbalife protein pancakes, the logic is the same. Waffles just need a thicker batter and a hotter, longer cook.

Ingredients (makes 2 waffles)

  • 2 level scoops (26 g) Formula 1, any flavour. Vanilla Cream and Cookies & Cream work best.
  • 2 level scoops (28 g) Protein Drink Mix, vanilla.
  • 30 g oat flour, or porridge oats blitzed fine in a blender.
  • 1 tsp baking powder.
  • 1 medium egg plus 1 egg white.
  • 90 to 110 ml semi-skimmed milk, or water for a lighter waffle.
  • A pinch of salt. Optional: ½ tsp vanilla extract or a shake of cinnamon.
  • Oil spray or a little melted butter for the plates.

How do you make Herbalife waffles with Formula 1 step by step?

  1. Switch on the waffle maker first. Protein batter needs a fully hot iron. A lukewarm iron is the main cause of sticking.
  2. Whisk the wet ingredients. Beat the egg and egg white, then add the milk and vanilla.
  3. Add the dry ingredients. Tip in the Formula 1, PDM, oat flour, baking powder and salt and whisk until smooth. The batter should drop slowly from the whisk, like thick double cream.
  4. Rest for 10 minutes. The oat flour and the fibre in Formula 1 absorb liquid as they sit, which stops the middle turning gummy.
  5. Oil the plates generously. Do this even on a non-stick iron. Protein batter has no wheat gluten to hold it together, so it clings.
  6. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes. Cover the plate without overflowing, close the lid and do not lift it for at least three minutes. Open too early and the waffle splits. Cook until deep golden and the steam has almost stopped.
  7. Cool for a minute before topping. Protein waffles firm up as they cool, so give them 60 seconds on a rack.

Top with Greek yoghurt and berries, nut butter or a drizzle of honey.

How much protein is in a Herbalife waffle?

Using UK label values, one batch works out at roughly 40 g protein and about 440 kcal, so 20 g protein per waffle. That is an estimate from label values, not a laboratory analysis.

For comparison, Herbalife's official UK waffle recipe, made with Formula 1 and Protein Bake Mix, lists 223 kcal and 19.3 g protein per portion, according to the recipe on herbalife.com. Either way you get a breakfast that is a source of protein, and protein contributes to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass, an authorised EU claim under Regulation (EU) 432/2012.

The British Nutrition Foundation sets the adult reference intake at 0.75 g protein per kilogram of body weight per day on its protein guidance page. One waffle breakfast covers a fair slice of that, as part of a balanced diet and healthy, active lifestyle.

Can you cook with Herbalife Formula 1?

Yes. Herbalife publishes its own baked recipes using Formula 1, including waffles, muffins and pancakes, so heating the powder is an accepted use.

Two caveats. Formula 1 is designed as a balanced meal when prepared as directed with 250 ml semi-skimmed milk. In a waffle it is an ingredient, and the nutrition of your breakfast depends on everything else in the bowl. And some vitamins are heat-sensitive, so a cooked waffle will not match the vitamin profile of a cold shake. If you rely on Formula 1 for micronutrients, keep the shake in your routine and treat waffles as a variation. Our guide on replacing breakfast with a Herbalife shake explains what the shake itself delivers.

Formula 1 is already sweetened, so skip the sugar. A pinch of salt makes the waffle taste less like a shake.

Can you make Herbalife waffles with Protein Drink Mix only?

Yes, for a lower-calorie, less sweet waffle. Replace the Formula 1 with two more scoops of PDM, add ½ tsp vanilla extract because PDM alone tastes plain, and cut the milk to about 80 ml.

The reverse works too. Use four scoops of Formula 1, keep the whole egg and drop the egg white. That waffle is softer and sweeter with less protein. For what PDM does and how it differs from Formula 1, read our Protein Drink Mix review.

Vegan and gluten-free version

Swap in Protein Drink Mix Vegan, use oat milk, and replace the egg and egg white with a flax egg: 1 tbsp ground flaxseed stirred into 3 tbsp water and rested for five minutes. Add an extra ¼ tsp baking powder for lift. Formula 1 in the UK is gluten-free, so with certified gluten-free oats the whole recipe is gluten-free.

Using Protein Bake Mix instead of oat flour

If you have the limited-edition Protein Bake Mix, use one serving (24 g) instead of the oat flour and skip the baking powder, as the mix already contains raising agent. This is the pairing in Herbalife's own UK recipe.

Why do Herbalife protein waffles stick, split or come out dense?

  • Sticking: iron not hot enough, plates not oiled, or lid opened too soon. Wait for the ready light and oil both plates every time.
  • Splitting in half: almost always an early lid lift. The middle glues to both plates until it is cooked through.
  • Dense or rubbery: too much powder for the liquid, no rest time, or stale baking powder.
  • Soggy middle: undercooked. Cook until the steam stops, then rest on a rack, not a plate.
  • Tastes powdery: use milk rather than water, add the salt and rest the batter.

Can you batch-cook and freeze Herbalife waffles?

Yes, and it is the best reason to make them. Triple the recipe, cool the waffles fully on a rack, freeze them in a single layer, then bag. They keep for up to a month and reheat from frozen in a toaster or air fryer in two to three minutes, crisper than fresh. Cooked waffles also keep in the fridge for three days in an airtight box.

FAQ

Can you cook with Herbalife Formula 1?

Yes. Herbalife publishes official baked recipes using Formula 1, including waffles and muffins. Some heat-sensitive vitamins may be reduced by cooking, so keep the cold shake in your routine if you rely on it for micronutrients.

Can I make Herbalife waffles without Protein Drink Mix?

Yes. Use four scoops of Formula 1 instead of two plus two of PDM, keep the whole egg and drop the egg white. The waffle will be softer and sweeter with less protein.

Why do my Herbalife waffles stick to the waffle maker?

The iron was not fully hot, the plates were not oiled, or you opened the lid too early. Protein batter has no wheat gluten, so oil both plates every time and wait at least three minutes before lifting the lid.

Can I make Herbalife protein waffles vegan?

Yes. Use Protein Drink Mix Vegan, oat milk and a flax egg in place of the egg and egg white, with an extra pinch of baking powder for lift.

Can I freeze Herbalife protein waffles?

Yes. Cool fully, freeze in a single layer, then bag. They keep for up to a month and reheat well from frozen in a toaster or air fryer.
